Annmarie Goulbourne M.Sc.
Position: Manager of Environmental Management Services

Mrs. Annmarie Goulbourne has over fourteen years’ experience as a certified environmental professional with the Institute of Professional Environmental Practice. Mrs. Goulbourne was a commonwealth scholar obtaining a Master of Science in Forestry from the University of Bangor in Wales and is trained in Project Management from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Science, and Environmental and Natural Resource Management from the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago.

Mrs. Goulbourne has applied her expertise to environmental and social management projects, with specific roles in conducting environmental site assessments, social impact assessments, stakeholder engagement, impact analyses, and development of environmental and social management plans for various, residential, commercial and infrastructural projects including roads, ports and airports. She has worked with various sectors including the agriculture sector and the tourism sector, applying her expertise in environmental and social due diligence, disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. 

Mrs. Goulbourne has managed several local and regional projects funded by the multilateral agencies, thus applying the respective Environmental and Social Safeguards to environmental and social assessments, policy, institutional and legislative assessments, vulnerability and risk assessments, disaster risk assessments and management plans, and national climate change adaptation strategies and action plans. 

With her Caribbean-wide experience, she is also intimate with the knowledge and issues associated with small island developing states and low-lying countries. She understands the importance of the coastal zone in these countries for multiple uses despite their exposure to various hazards and climate change risks. As such, she has contributed, through her work with various private sector organizations as well as the public sector, to building the sustainability of the Blue Economy. 

At ESL, Mrs. Goulbourne is the Manager for the Environmental Management Services Division, where she leads a team of multidisciplinary professionals to provide quality services in sustainable business development, environmental planning and management systems, greening of businesses, disaster risk management and planning, natural resources management, environmental management training and climate resilience planning.

Bethany Johnson - Project Administrator - EMS

Bethany Johnson

Position: – BSc. – Project Administrator – EMS

Miss Bethany Johnson holds a Bsc. in Terrestrial and Freshwater Biology. She joined the team at Environmental Solutions Limited in August 2021 as Project Administrator. She is a self-motivated and driven individual who is focused on continuing her personal and professional development.

Miss Johnson’s love for the natural environment and the great outdoors inspires her passion to further her knowledge and experience in areas such as ecology and environmental management.

Dexter-Dean Colquhoun - Environmental Analyst - EMS

Dexter-Dean S. Colquhoun 
Position: PhD. – Environmental Analyst

Dr. Dexter Dean Colquhoun joined the ESL Team as an Environmental Analyst and Marine Ecologist in 2022. He holds a BSc. in Marine Biology (Hons.) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Marine Sciences from the University of the West Indies (UWI, Mona).

Dr. Colquhoun’s main areas of expertise include planktology, marine and coastal ecology, water quality assessment, Marine Protected Area (MPA) management and fisheries science (e.g., ecological modelling). He has also garnered extensive experience working on diverse projects and consultancies including various Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs); Marine Ecological Assessments; Mangrove/Wetland Forest assessments; Blue Economy baseline research (for Jamaica); as well as climate change resilience research (utilizing traditional agricultural crops).

His Ph.D. dissertation entitled: ‘The Assessment of Water Quality, Plankton and Trophic Status Towards Creation and Management of a Special Fishery Conservation Area (SFCA) in East Portland, Jamaica,’ contributed to the successful definition and designation of the first SFCA in eastern Jamaica (i.e., the East Portland SFCA, declared July 2016) and provided critical insight on potential risks as well as viable management options and monitoring regimes for the now protected area.

His previous posts includes as lecturer (adjunct) at the Caribbean Maritime University (2021-2023); laboratory instructor in the Department of Life Sciences, UWI (2013-2021); and as Resident Advisor for Rex Nettleford and Irvine Halls, UWI Mona (2016-2019).

Kimberley Coore - Team Lead - Environmental Management Services (EMS)

Miss Kimberley Coore is an ecologist who specializes in the field of marine ecology with a focus on Caribbean coral reef health, particularly that which is related to marine pollution and other anthropogenic impacts. Miss Coore holds a Master of Science degree in this field which has exposed her to various aspects of research and have allowed her to develop her skills in data collection and analysis, reef surveys, nutrient and sediment analyses. Her time with the University of the West Indies has also afforded her the ability to share her experiences and knowledge while teaching several cohorts of final year marine students, specifically in the areas of marine fisheries and fishable resources, coastal and marine ecosystems, and oceanography.

Currently, Miss Coore is with Environmental Solutions Limited in Jamaica, where she functions in the capacity of Team Lead for the Environmental Management Services Division (EMS) and also operates as an Environmental Analyst and Project Manager. These roles have allowed her to be able to integrate her knowledge in both marine and terrestrial ecology to carry out her designated tasks in environmental management, planning and auditing often linked to proposed developments or operational due diligence. In addition to her environmental work, Miss Coore is also actively involved in the creative and performing arts where she expresses herself mainly through art and dance, in which she has competed both locally and internationally. She is a member of the Rotaract Club of Kingston where she gives of her time and resources to help, educate, and empower others.

Herona Thompson - Environmental Management Specialist - EMS

Position:  MSc. Environmental Management Specialist

Ms.Herona Thompson joined the Consulting team at Environmental Solutions Limited in 2021 as an Environmental Management Specialist. She has over eight years’ experience as a geoscience and environmental professional and holds an MSc. Degree in Engineering Geology from the University of Leeds in the U.K. and a BSc. Degree majoring in Geology with a minor in Environmental Chemistry from the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies. Ms. Thompson trained in Project Management from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.

Ms. Thompson has applied her expertise in her fields through supervising, monitoring and supporting aspects of the Government of Jamaica’s petroleum exploration programme; investigating geotechnical issues in private and public facilities and critical infrastructure; researching the potential risk of climate change on the geotechnical issues of critical infrastructure in the Caribbean and through managing and supporting environmental projects. Ms. Thompson is also highly experienced in stakeholder management and monitoring.

Her work in the environmental field is diverse in location, project size and clientele. She has worked on land and at sea while managing and supporting varying environmental projects, locally and regionally, and with local and international clients. These projects involve supporting clients in regulatory permitting processes, the development of Environmental Assessments in conformance with local and international standards, sampling and laboratory management and analyses, data collection and organizing field assessments, conducting disaster and vulnerability risk assessments, policy assessments, and national climate change adaptation strategies and action plans.

Kristinia Doughorty - Environmental Analyst - EMS

Position:  PhD. Candidate – Environmental Analyst 

Miss Kristinia Doughorty is an Environmental Analyst at Environmental Solutions Limited and has a background in disaster risk management and sustainable rural livelihoods. Miss Doughorty is currently pursuing her PhD with a focus on soil security for resilient nutmeg farming systems of Grenada to reduce their risk to climate-related hazards. This study enabled her to develop her skills in soil quality analysis, vulnerability assessments, and climate-smart agriculture.

Miss Doughorty has also worked on local projects aimed at improving climate change adaptation within vulnerable fishing and farming communities. As a graduate research assistant, she has worked with regional agencies such as the World Bank, Inter-American Bank and USAID. Her primary aim is to make a meaningful impact on vulnerable groups in the Caribbean region by increasing their capacities and resilience to environmental shocks and stresses.

In her free time, Miss Doughorty volunteers with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) to create a regional youth network for DRR in the Americas and the Caribbean. Previous engagement with the UNDRR included assisting in the planning and execution of a Youth Regional Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction in 2020 and 2021 as well as engaging youth on disaster risk reduction.

Piera Brown - Environmental Analyst - EMS

Piera Brown 
Position: MSc – Environmental Analyst 

Ms.Pietra Brown is an Environmental Analyst in the Environmental Management Services (EMS) Division at Environmental Solutions Limited

She is an award-winning writer and researcher with over 10 years of experience documenting environmental issues, in particular the intersection between climate change and human, non-human communities and natural resources. Her research is known for its high-quality, detail and multidisciplinary approach. She has worked on a wide range of environmental issues, from documenting gender altering sand temperatures of sea turtle populations in Costa Rica, to updating and maintaining a Caribbean Climate Impacts Dataset that catalogued climate and weather extremes from 1834-2019 for all the member states and territories of the Caribbean Community in Barbados.

Ms. Brown has worked for a significant number of environmental, local and regional institutions which include the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Costa Rica, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – Caribbean Environment Programme in Jamaica and the Caribbean Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology in Barbados (CIMH). At the Climate Studies Group, which is located at the UWI Mona Campus, where she has had the longest attachment, she has prepared summary reports for stakeholders, coedited the first national climate change textbook for school aged children, written extensively on climate impacts on society and key sectors, prepared assessments and updated reports including the Third National Communication to the United Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for the Government of Jamaica. She has also participated in vulnerability assessments of coastal and farmland communities, as well as led several knowledge exchanges and capacity building workshops in Mexico, St. Lucia, Argentina and her homeland Jamaica. Recently she was the lead author of the impacts chapter for the State of the Caribbean Climate Report.

Throughout her work experience Ms. Brown regularly draws on the positive relationships she has cultivated with community groups and government officials, through these numerous projects to provide the most up to date, high quality and comprehensive reports.
